The 2020 Buick GS is a snazzier take on traditional transportation, with various basic luxuries and many available driver assists; but, don’t expect it to totally reproduce the old-school GS experience. Buick used to build muscle cars and other performance vehicles, but the Regal GS is now the sportiest vehicle in its showrooms.
Choosing a 2020 Regal GS is simple, thanks to a powerful V-6 powertrain and standard all-wheel drive. Sport Red is the only free paint color offered, and the other options are less appealing. We’d go with the Appearance and Sights and Sounds options. They include an eight-speaker Bose music system, LED headlights with auto leveling and corner lights, remote start, built-in navigation, wireless phone charging, and other features. There are also a number of optional driver aids available, such as automated emergency braking and adaptive cruise control, but they are only sold in pairs.
A 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces 310 horsepower and 282 lb-ft of torque powers every Regal GS. Its engine is paired with a curiously lacking paddle shifters nine-speed automatic transmission. Instead, the shifter situated in the middle of the console is used for manual gear selection. The GS’s standard all-wheel-drive system aids in improved cornering as well as increasing traction in slick weather. Unexpectedly, the most recent model we tested was only 0.2 seconds faster than our front-drive, four-cylinder Regal to reach 60 mph.
The three selectable drive modes—Touring, Sport, and GS—can be used to modify the adaptive dampers that support the GS. The 2020 Regal GS’s interior has stylish and supportive front seats with heating, cooling, and massage features. Even if the remainder of the cabin is generally muted and some of the materials are uninteresting, a flat-bottom steering wheel and metal pedals give off an air of sportiness.
A snappy 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration and a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot are standard on every GS. A head-up display, wireless charging, and an eight-speaker Bose audio system are all desirable extras.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety have not conducted crash tests on the 2020 Regal GS (IIHS). Buick offers a reasonable limited warranty as well as superior powertrain protection. While the 2020 Regal GS comes with free maintenance, it only covers one visit.

If you ask some people, the new Regal looks more like a European car than an American one, and it’s either refreshing or a little unattractive, depending on your point of view. We think it looks just as handsome when paired with the 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels with tech gray accents and large silver fog lamps surrounding them. The GS’s smooth lines hide a hatchback-style tailgate. The rear spoiler makes the rear of the GS look like a cross between the Lexus IS 350 and BMW M2.
Exterior features include daytime running lights, automatic on/off and delay, automatic halogen headlights, as well as automatic on/off and daytime running lights. There are no filament lights in the taillights. Heated and auto-dimming side mirrors are available. However, we do not know if it will be enough to entice young people to buy it.

Due to the engine’s peak nature, the EPA estimates the Regal GS at 19/27/22 mpg city/highway/combined. The Chevy Malibu gets 22/32/26 mpg with the 2.0-liter turbo and front-wheel-drive layout, while the Buick LaCrosse gets 25/35/29 mpg with the 2.5-liter inline-four in the base configuration. In the 3.6-liter AWD variant, it drops to 20/29/23 mpg.
2024 Buick Regal Release date And Price
2024 Buick Regal GS is the most expensive model in the Regal line. The entry-level FWD 2.0T costs $25,370, while the top-of-the-line General Service is $39,070. The GS is $13,700 more than the base model Regal after taxes, registration fee, and $925 destination fee. Buick faces challenges as it approaches the $40,000 mark as many competing automakers offer better products at the same price. A 5.7-liter V8-powered Dodge Charger R/T costs just $36,395, but a Honda Accord 2.0T Touring costs only $36,250—undoubtedly a more dynamic car despite its power, at a price that’s about less. $2,820.

2024 Buick Regal Update
Wagons may not be as popular as they once were, but they’re still alive and kicking. Based on the Regal Sportback sedan, the Buick Regal TourX is one of the newer entries in the segment, and offers many of the strengths that have made wagons a desirable form of family transportation over the years. The 2020 Buick Regal TourX is like a crossover in that it offers generous amounts of cargo space. However, as with all wagons, the Regal TourX rides closer to the ground than typical SUVs. One advantage of this distinction is that it has a lower, easier-to-access roof rack than the crossover. The 2020 Regal TourX also delivers the quiet cabin you’ve come to expect from Buick, and its sculpted exterior design is sure to win some fans.
Unfortunately, the major driver assistance features aren’t available with the base model Regal TourX. You need to move up to the Preferred model to access amenities like blind-spot monitoring, and this is the trim level we’d recommend to the average buyer. The Regal TourX Preferred rides on 18-inch wheels and comes with exterior features such as fog lights, integrated roof rails, automatic headlights, and power-adjustable side mirrors. Inside its cabin, dual-zone automatic climate control is standard, as well as tech amenities including a Wi-Fi hotspot and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration. Fold the rear seat flat and this swells to 74 cubic feet.
