Now, the company will release a new full-size EQS SUV that is also entirely electric. Of course, the SUV model will be based on the EQS sedan, but there will be significant differences. It comprises many platforms as well as numerous aesthetic changes.

The sedan version offers 435 miles, which is impressive. Mercedes says the SUV will go 478 miles on a full charge, but we think the EQS SUV will provide about 400 miles of range, just like the sedan. A DC fast charger will be available and you can charge this model from 0 to 100 percent in half an hour.

Inside, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS will offer plenty of luxury, just like any other Mercedes. This SUV comes with great finishes, upright materials and soft-touch surfaces. In addition, this model will offer the latest driver assistance technology and a larger touch screen option.
As usual, Mercedes will offer suede, wood and microfiber leather which we think is the perfect combination. Unfortunately, we don’t have all the details yet but expect a very nice cabin design with plenty of high-tech features.

As for the exterior design, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 2023 will deviate slightly from the brand’s traditional style. The model uses a new platform and Mercedes says the EQS will be the world’s most air-efficient SUV. Visually, the front end has a grille that looks the same on all EQ models. Optionally, you can get larger, sleeker 22-inch tires. The side profile looks very subtle and the rear features a beautiful light strip connecting the taillights. Finally, the EQS SUV will be available in Standard Line and AMG Line versions. The AMG lineup will add unique bumpers, gloss black features, a sportier look and an overall sporty look.

Speaking of the powertrain, both models will get octane via a 107.8 kWh battery. However, based on the trim configuration you choose, the specifications of the 2023 EQS Sedan will vary. The base 450+ variant will be powered by a single electric motor that produces 329 horsepower and 419 pound-feet of torque and drives only the rear wheels. Meanwhile, the 580 4MATIC will get two electric motors, one of which sits on each axle and produce 516 horsepower and 631 pound-feet of torque, driving all four wheels.
However, it’s not just about the spec sheet, as the design of the EQS sedan also plays a big role in its driving dynamics. The Mercedes-Benz EQS is claimed to be the most aerodynamic car in the world with a drag coefficient as low as 0.20. This feat, combined with a powerful battery, can make the EQS 580 4MATIC go from 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds, while the 450+ can achieve the same feat in 5.5 seconds. The top speed for both variants is limited to 130 mph.

Upon reaching range and charging time, the EQS Sedan is claimed to be able to return a range of 478 miles on a single charge. However, since these numbers correspond to WLTP courses, expect slightly lower EPA numbers, ranging from 420 to 450 miles. Both EQS models come standard with an onboard charger with a capacity of 9.6 kW, which can recharge the battery from 0 to 100% in just 31 minutes. However, that’s when you connect the EQS to a DC fast charger. When connected to an AC charging station, the EQS will take about 11 hours to fully charge the battery.
Now speaking of looks, the EQS certainly carries all the hallmarks of a Mers sedan with its sharp design, impressive front end and sleek, sleek side profile. However, from the EQ sub-brand, the EQS replaces the traditional trim with elements such as the brushed front grille, 20-22-inch alloy wheels, flush-mounted door handles, and a lightweight strip that expands the width of the rear fascia. Inside, the Mercedes-Benz EQS will feature a 56-inch Hyperscreen that covers the entire instrument panel and runs the latest MBUX software.

We had an early opportunity to try out EQS in San Francisco, which houses some of the largest technology companies in the world. The EQS, a new six-figure luxury sedan that didn’t hit the market, was expected to attract more attention, but no one seems to be paying attention. First impressions point to a jellybean-like profile of a $100,000 luxury ship, which may take a while to get used to. Mercedes should have given the EQS a more traditional look. Since a longer hood is usually associated with more expensive cars, the decision to move the cab forward here seems like a wrong move.
The EQS is Mercedes’ “S-Class of Electric Vehicles”, which is why they decided to complement it with the latest technology. The Super Display (standard on the 580 and optional on the 450+) is a masterpiece consisting of three separate screens covered in a single pane of glass. It’s 56 inches wide, and has a 12.3-inch driver’s display, a 17.7-inch center display, and a 12.3-inch passenger display. To ensure you don’t miss a turn, the driver’s view can be turned into a full color map with augmented reality HUD. Capacitive touch controls on the steering wheel allow the driver to change the content of the screen. Powered by Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment software, a central touchscreen display can be used to control the vehicle. In the new Zero Layer menu format, maps are placed behind frequently used controls, making it easy to quickly find what you need. Once it recognizes you, the system recommends things like massage chairs, navigation destinations, or air suspension lifts for inclines. As a passenger, you can set up GPS, change radios, and be the perfect co-pilot thanks to the passenger display’s ability to mirror the center display.
There are two variants of the EQS, and both have one of the largest batteries we’ve seen in an EV. The EQS 450+ and EQS 580 4MATIC both have an EPA-estimated range of 350 miles and 340 miles, respectively, thanks to these large batteries. While that’s about 50 miles less than the long-range Tesla Model S and 170 miles less than the Lucid Air, it’s still more than the Audi e-Tron GT and BMW i4 hybrid. With this level of comfort, we still needed to stop to take a breather after 350 miles to recharge and stretch. Mercedes is making recharging easier than ever, depending on where you get your power source from. In just 31 minutes, the car can use a DC fast charger from 10% to 80% of its capacity. Over the next two years, Mercedes will offer free 30-minute charging sessions via Electrify America. However, at this price point, we suspect electricity costs will be a major concern for buyers.
Release Date And Price
To our surprise, the EQS 2023 is cheaper than its gas-powered counterpart. Starting at $102,310 (excluding $1,050) destinations, the EQS 450+ Premium comes with a $7,500 federal tax credit, but is only available after the vehicle is purchased. The S500 4MATIC, on the other hand, costs $109,800, but has nearly 100 more horsepower and is standard AWD. At $105,710, the Exclusive is not much more expensive than the Pinnacle, which costs $108,510. On the other hand, the twin-engine EQS 580 4MATIC requires a significant price increase. The EQS 580 Premium starts at $119,110, which is nearly $17,000 more than the 450+ price. There’s not much difference in price between Exclusive and Pinnacle, starting at $122,510 and $125,310 respectively. With no 4WD and extra power, we recommend the EQS 450+ Pinnacle, which costs $10.6000 less than the base model ESQ 580.
