Lexus and parent company Toyota are directing significant resources to enhance the brand’s already large lineup of SUVs. Last year, Toyota revealed an updated version of the highly successful RAV4, and by the end of this summer, the Lexus RX will be hitting showrooms.

But there’s more in the SUV pipeline. Selling an average of 58,000 units annually in the United States since its debut in 2014, the next generation Lexus NX will be a full-scale redesign due to arrive in 2022.

The same Global Architecture-K platform is expected to be used as the new RAV4 and RX, and the second-generation NX will have a 106-inch wheelbase, similar to the RAV4. Perhaps the optional 2022 Lexus NX engine will finally convince Audi to bring the SQ3 or even the more powerful RS Q3 to the States.

In general, the next generation Lexus NX compact crossover will be much better and more powerful than the car it replaces.
