2023 Cadillac Lyriq made its debut earlier this month, offering a comparable range of technologies to Tesla. Today, Cadillac is getting hints on the cost of an electrical crossover as it debuts at the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023. According to Automotive News, the Lyriq will launch at less than $60,000. This is according to Steve Carlisle, President of General Motors North America, who reported at the JP Morgan Auto Conference on Wednesday.
2023 Cadillac Lyriq Release Date And Price
“This car should be priced comparable to what the industry estimates today for a mid-size luxury SUV, and maybe slightly higher up front,” Carlisle said. “It is a price that will not consist of five numbers. It will not start with the number seven and it will not start with six.” Full pricing information will be released as the model launches nearer.
Time will tell if the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq has a large price premium over the similar-sized XT5, which currently starts at $ 45,090. To compare the Lyriq to its EV competitors, the Tesla Model Y is currently trading with a starting price of $ 51,190, while the Jaguar I-Pace costs $ 71,000. These prices include destination fees.
We don’t know all the details yet, but Cadillac says the Lyriq will be able to travel more than 300 miles on a single charge. So far there hasn’t been any word from the EPA about the Lyriq’s estimated fuel economy (expressed in MPGe), but we expect it to be available near the SUV’s sales date. We’ll also have the opportunity to put the Lyriq through a 200-mile highway fuel economy test in the future, and when we do we’ll update that story with the results.
Interior, comfort and freight
The Lyriq concept car features a spacious four-seat-only interior and a central console that divides the two front and two rear seats, with a touchscreen display for rear-seat passengers. We’re not sure how much of that will reach production, and we’re expecting three-seater seats in the second row. Cadillac says the use of dedicated EV engineering allows for a more airy and open cabin with plenty of room for occupants to feel comfortable. More advanced noise canceling technology is said to reduce road noise inside the cabin, and interior designers have incorporated surprises such as backlit speaker grilles and hidden storage compartments.
Infotainment and communication
The dash of Lyriq is dominated by a giant 33.0-inch curved OLED screen, as does the new 2021 Escalade, which functions as an SUV’s infotainment system and as a driver indicator. Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) released crash test results for Lyriq.
