2022 Volkswagen ID.4 News
Volkswagen announced it will apply the GTX branding to its most powerful electric vehicles earlier this month, and has now revealed images of its first chunky new performance line of ID.4 GTX.
Reality is very close to our expectations, with the final car showing a slight shift to distinguish it from the normal ID. Although the bodywork remains unchanged, the GTX features the painted lower cladding and roof rails in gloss black instead of the regular car’s glossy metallic finish. Changes to the cabin take a similar approach. All the keychain is shared with the current car, but there are more red trim, a redesigned instrument cluster, and some subtle GTX branding. Given the bonds Volkswagen wants to make with the current GTI, we were disappointed not to see trim seats.
The ID.4 GTX will feature all-wheel drive thanks to an additional front electric motor. Volkswagen has not officially confirmed the GTX for the US, although it has promised to get all-wheel drive versions of the ID.4. This indicates that this car, or its powertrain under a different brand, will eventually cross the Atlantic.
