2022 Kia Sorento. Sorento new generation SUV postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic. The company has planned a series of events during the year 2020 to promote the next vehicle and start production as YM 2021. However, everything is in a gap at the moment and it looks like the next generation SUV will arrive like the 2022 Kia Sorento.
The car made a successful transformation from a minivan into one of the most attractive SUVs. The Korean company will continue to develop its flagship model, although they have a lot of work on the new Telluride, which is the largest model in the range. Well, this SUV gives us some clues as to what the 2022 Kia Sorento might look like. Additionally, there are spy photos and other sources that provide more details about the new generation.
Cosmetic changes and redesign with mechanical upgrades will follow. An SUV will retain a four-piston engine as a primary option and a V6 as an optional extra with more power. Another configuration will join the line-up and recent rumors say Kia is behind the PHEV system.
2022 Kia Sorento Design
We’re talking about this a brand new car, so fans are eager to see it on the market. The 2022 Kia Sorento is sure to boost sales and make the SUV more competitive. The main markets are the United States and the homeland. The car could arrive earlier than usual, as the SUV should have already started according to the initial plan. The level of changes is high, and spy photos point to it. We’ll repeat once again, that’s exactly what we expect from the new SUV.
Specifications 2022 Kia Sorento
The base configuration of the 2022 Kia Sorento is still based on a four-cylinder engine. The 2.4-liter capacity is good for 185 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque. Yes, that’s an engine we’ll likely find under the hood of a compact crossover. However, the small engine makes the price of the SUV more attractive and provides an option for buyers who do not need much power.
If you’re looking for a more powerful transmission, there’s a 3.3-liter V6 that puts out 290 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque. Not only the engine, but also the gearbox is new: instead of a six-speed box, the larger engine will use an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on both configurations, while buyers can upgrade to AWD. The larger unit is more capable of towing, reaching a capacity of 5,000 pounds.
Fans are still asking about the 3.8-liter V6 mill that debuts the new Telluride. The smaller 2022 Sorento can replace the 3.3-liter displacement with an engine that generates 290 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. Experts like this unit very much so we reserve this as an option until the company confirms or denies the access.
Also, the new 2022 Kia Sorento is about to get a hybrid system. On the other hand, the sources do not provide accurate details about the development. The latest rumors indicate the release of additional components with an electric range of at least 25 miles. Well, if Kia wants to be competitive, bosses will have to speed up the process.
The new SUV enters the next generation in a new style. This is the beginning of the redesign process. Engine upgrades are optional. Heavy camouflage hides many details, but the test mule shows we can expect great things. The front end is under renovation and fans will see most of the mods there. Well, that’s the first thing we see on the car and Kia wants to get noticed. The SUV will be slightly larger than before, and it will gain two inches. We’ll see how this affects driving performance.
The additional length will allow designers to get more creativity inside the cabin. The interior will be modern, with some advanced features available in the higher trim levels. The interior of the 2022 Kia Sorento will have a new design, with more passenger space. The basic configuration seats seven and the SUV will get additional cargo space. It currently offers 11 cubic feet of capacity, which is among the worst capacities in its class. As the third row drops, the room rises to 38 cubic feet. Its new sibling, Telluride, feels most comfortable at 21/46 cu ft with / without grade three.
2022 Kia Sorento Release Date
With a new generation on its way, we can look forward to it once the auto market recovers from the COVID-19 outbreak. Everything remains idle and we don’t know when the new 2022 Kia Sorento will be released. The Korean company will skip next season to allow more time for designers and engineers to fine-tune the SUV for the upcoming challenges.

2022 Kia Sorento Update
Given the recent update, we expect to see the 2020 Kia Sorento without major changes. The popular crossover has been around for years. The original arrived 16 years ago and so far we’ve seen three generations. The current model has been on the market since 2015. A couple of months ago, we saw a mid-cycle refresh, which brings various kinds of changes to the 2019 model year.
There’s a new style, with updates mainly up front, as well as some changes under the hood. The interior doesn’t feature much change, but one of the great things about this update is the greatly expanded list of standard equipment. With all these changes, there is no doubt that the 2020 Sorento will arrive the same way. The only changes possible are in terms of new standard features and some cosmetic modifications. The rest of the intersection will certainly continue the same way.
2020 Kia Sorento restyling
In terms of basic design features, this model will not change for years to come. The latest update has brought many visual improvements. First of all, there’s a new front end that takes a lot of inspiration from models like the Forte and Cadenza. You can see a new headlight and grille design as well as a remodeled front bumper. The backside also comes with some noticeable changes, including a new taillight design. Of course, there are cosmetic updates such as new color options, wheel designs, etc.
Given all these changes, the 2020 Kia Sorento is virtually unchanged. Few color options are all you can expect from the new model. On the other hand, the mechanics are practically the same as in the 2015 prototype. The crossover is based on the same chassis, which offers a lot of practicality, although it is less dynamic compared to some of the other models in the class.
2020 Kia Sorento interior
This crossover is only three years old at the moment, so larger interior changes could not be expected, especially given the model’s exclusive interior that offers plenty of quality and lots of equipment. The biggest novelty in the last update was the third row of seats, which is now a standard feature even on most base models. In addition, there is a host of new and advanced security systems. So don’t expect any major changes in the 2020 Kia Sorento. Rely on the same practical cabin that offers two extremely spacious rows of seats. On the other hand, Grade Three is narrow and definitely not for adults. The cargo space is possibly the weakest point at this intersection. You can count on just 11 cubic feet behind the third row. Once the second and third rows are folded, you can count on an acceptable 73 cubic feet.
In terms of technology, even the more expensive models come with items like a 7-inch touch screen, bluetooth, smartphone integration, a six-speaker audio system, etc. Navigation, wireless phone charging, and much more.
2020 Kia Sorento Safety
In terms of safety, the 2020 Kia Sorento will come with several advanced systems. You get things like Surround View Camera, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Pedestrian Detection, and more.
2020 Kia Sorento Drive
The recent update brought a big change under the hood. A straight four-cylinder turbo is no longer available, so a large 6-cylinder unit is the only option, while the in-line four-cylinder remains the primary engine. So most of the base versions come with a 2.4L family unit, which is fine for around 185hp. On the higher versions, you can get a 3.3-liter V6, which produces around 290 hp. Another strong point of this crossover is the fuel economy. Provide above average numbers for the class. With the basic four-cylinder unit, you can expect 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. On the other hand, the V6 also delivers very respectable numbers, around 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.
2020 Kia Sorento release date and price
The 2020 Kia Sorento will not introduce major changes, so we should not see it earlier than usual, which in this case means the end of 2019. The same thing happens with the price that should remain in the same range, already basic versions will be available. 26,000 dollars. On the other hand, the flagship models can come in at $ 45,000.
Kia Sorento 2020 competition
The mid-size crossover segment is one of the toughest sectors in the market. So the 2020 Kia Sorento will compete with a lot of great models. The crossover has got to be the biggest competitors like Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-9, Ford Edge, etc.

2022 Kia Sorento News
It’s no secret that we love the Kia Telluride, 2020’s best SUV, and we’re glad the younger Sorento takes a page from its book and adopts some bold styling cues. Now, we learn the revised 2021 Kia Sorento specifications coming to the US, including details of the new hybrid variant.
Like the Kia Telluride, the new Sorento has a prominent front fascia and box, and the new, wide grille makes your mug appear more spacious. The headlamps are now integrated into the grille, and feature LED daytime running lights “Tiger Eye”, which means “strong impression of lines around tiger eyes”. By pushing the A-pillar back slightly, the Kia Sorento has given a more windy design. We can see the telluride effect in the strong character lines and the vertical taillights and the model name written in bold letters on the rear of the SUV.
The midsize SUV rests on a new, lighter and stronger platform. The new platform allows Kia to extend the crossover wheelbase by nearly 1.4 inches, allowing for more interior space. Overall weight decreased slightly by 119 lbs and average tensile strength improved by 4 percent. Thanks to the new chassis, Kia can accommodate plug-in and hybrid powertrains.
Sorento hybrids won’t be available until next year. But the traditional hybrid is available at launch. It consists of a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and a 59-hp electric motor, which work together to produce a combined peak of 227 hp. Kia claims the Sorento Hybrid is the most powerful in its class and estimates that the model will handle fuel economy figures of 39 mpg city, 35 mpg highway and 37 mpg combined.
Previously, the Sorento offered 2.4-liter, four-cylinder and 3.3-liter V-6 engine options. For 2021, these two options are being replaced by two different four-cylinder options, each with a capacity of 2.5 liters. The previous engine generates 191 horsepower and 182 pounds of torque, which it sends to the steering wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is estimated at 27 mpg combined, 2 mpg more than the previous base engine. The second, a turbocharged unit, delivers 281 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque and is based on an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. At 25 mpg combined, this mill is 3 mpg more efficient than the previous V-6. The towing capacity is 3,500 pounds in this model. Both new engines are available in front-wheel or four-wheel drive.
When it finally arrives, the Sorento hybrid will be able to travel 30 miles with pure electricity, according to Kia. It uses a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a 90hp electric motor, to generate a combined maximum power of 261hp. All-wheel drive is standard, as is the six-speed automatic transmission.
Kia is offering the new X-Line version to Sorento buyers looking for something a little more solid. This variable increases ground clearance by one inch and improves intersection approach and departure angles to help it off the beaten path. The Sorento X-Line also has an all-wheel drive system with a center locking differential, hill descent control, 20-inch X-Line wheels, and a more powerful luggage rack. The X-Line kit is available in the luxury SX-Prestige edition. Other trim levels available on the Sorento 2021 include the LX, S, EX and SX.
The new interior of the Sorento looks great. There’s a rotating gear stick, an available infotainment system with a 10.3-inch touchscreen, and an optional 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Buyers can also get flexible leather seats, as well as metallic inlays or open-pore wood accents. Kia notes that the new Sorento offers more legroom and cargo space than before. Six and seven-seat configurations are available.
Standard safety features include Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Rear Occupant Alert. Additionally, blind-view screens help drivers change lanes more easily by providing a video display of adjacent lanes in the instrument cluster.
The 2021 Kia Sorento is expected to go on sale later this year. Pricing has not yet been announced, but we expect the SUV to start above the current model’s base price of $ 28,110.
