Order books are now available for the 2022 GMC Hummer EV that debuted last night and looks like the re-imagined icon would be marginally more expensive than the Tesla Cybertruck, not to mention the other emerging electric trucks. Prices will start at $79,995 for the Hummer EV foundation, at the top end of the full-size truck market, but we’ll have to wait a long time for this version, which will be the least expensive Hummer model.
In fact, this base model won’t arrive until the spring of 2024, with a twin-engine powertrain and an estimated range of more than 250 miles. 2022 Hummer EV Update
The new GMC Hummer EV is a big deal, and it comes at a decent great price: $ 112,595 for the 2022 Hummer 1. This fully loaded single-wheeler will be the only version available for the model year. But the other configurations will start on the next year models with prices starting at $ 79.995, $ 89.995 and $ 99.995.

GM’s truck and SUV division introduced a 2022 GMC Hummer EV pickup truck with 35-inch off-road tires, air suspension, and up to three electric motors with 1,000 hp and 11,500 pounds of torque (wheel torque) and more. 350 miles of driving range.
There will be four models available, but for those looking to spend less, it will take more than two years for the electric Hummer to arrive – Spring 2024 to be exact. GMC will launch the Hummer lineup with the Hummer EV Edition 1, which will be available in late 2021.
The Hummer EV Edition 1 will have three engines, two in the rear and one in the front, and over 350 miles of driving range thanks to the Ultium 200 kWh battery pack and 24 dual stacked units. With an estimated 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque, the version 1 will be capable of 0-60 mph in 3.0 seconds, GMC says.
All Edition 1 models will start at $ 112,595 and will be available in white paint, Lunar Horizon interior and “Edition 1” interior badge. Version 1 will have all the perks that unlock the capabilities of the Hummer EV: torque steering, air suspension, and a pull-out mode that lifts the truck 6 inches to give it 15.9 inches of ground clearance, adaptive dampers, and suspension. All-wheel drive steering and GMC driver select mode called Watts to Freedom which will unleash time from 0-60 mph for 3.0 seconds.
GMC launches the Hummer EV in four stages. After Release 1 late next year, the Hummer EV3X will arrive in the fall of 2022, also with a three-engine drivetrain, torque vectoring, and Watts to Freedom mode. It will start at $ 99,995.
In the spring of 2023, the GMC Hummer EV2X will be offered with a twin engine, air suspension, four-wheel steering and a towing mode. This model will cost $ 89,995. The Hummer EV2, the more expensive model, will hit the market in the spring of 2024 with a price of $ 79.995, twin-engine system. GMC did not state the power or range of the twin-engine models nor did it clarify the size or range of capacity of the smaller batteries, although it was confirmed.
All models will be built with GM’s new BEV3 engineering. The electrical architecture is an 800-volt system capable of charging up to 350 kilowatts at speed to provide close to 100 miles of range in 10 minutes. GMC said owners will be able to charge from the Level 2 port at a rate of 11.5 kW, although it has not specified charging times. The company says the Ultium battery pack contributes to the rigidity of the Hummer EV’s chassis.
GMC’s all-wheel steering system features front and rear tires with rear wheels that can spin up to 10 degrees. It will provide three modes: Auto, Off, and CrabWalk. CrabWalk can be thought of as GMC’s response to Rivian’s “tank rotation” mode. The Rivian system allows the vehicle to rotate to its own length, and the Hummer EV system will rotate the rear with the front at low speed to allow the vehicle to move diagonally.
This technology should make it easy to maneuver the car in confined spaces and give the owners something to show off to their friends. General Motors’ latest version of the Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance system will be standard. The air suspension will allow for adjustable heights, with a maximum of 15.9 inches in towing position. The standard ride height should be around 9.9 inches and the off-road position will raise it 2 inches. GMC said the truck would be placed lower in Watts to Freedom mode, which is essentially launch control, but did not specify how much of the drop. Adaptive shocks will choke the road and 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler All Territory MT tires will be standard to handle the tracks. GMC said the Hummer EV will be able to fit 37-inch tires for greater capacity.
The Hummer EV will be able to pass through more than two feet of standing water and climb up an 18-inch vertical obstacle. Steel panels will be placed around the battery pack for protection, and the front and rear camera system under the chassis will operate as the virtual observer. GMC said up to 18 camera views will be available to help raise awareness of obstacles.
Inside, the Hummer EV is modern, with a 13.4-inch touchscreen display for entertainment, a set of 12.3-inch digital gauges, and another climate control screen. The touchscreen will use the UnReal Engine, a popular video game programming platform, to allow it to display 3D graphics and motion showing what the truck is doing.
Comfortable exterior features will include a multi-function tailgate from other GM trucks, an electric rear windshield and an electric tarp cover. The Hummer EV will be equipped with a Targa front roof panel and T-shaped roofs for the second row, all of which can fit into the front box.
GMC has not released any size specifications, but has said the Hummer EV will fit the GMC Sierra AT4 and is as spacious as the Ford Raptor. GMC originally planned to introduce the Hummer EV on May 20, but the coronavirus pandemic delayed it until the fall. Production is slated to start in the fall of 2021 at GM’s Detroit Hamtramck plant, which is being converted into a dedicated electric vehicle facility.
