Performance-wise, aside from the aforementioned hybrid powertrain, nothing will change. The hybrid will provide better fuel efficiency while the power figures will not change significantly. The 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine remains the only engine choice. This reliable output delivers 280 horsepower and 265 pounds of torque. The base trim comes in 9 speeds, while the top houses a new 10-speed automatic transmission.
The new platform might also mean the Odyssey pickup truck would not be a front-wheel drive model. We think Honda will offer the same FWD configuration. The current Odyssey delivers 19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. An Odyssey Type R will also come, and this high-performance version will benefit from a twin-turbo configuration under the hood. You will save more than 400 hp. Plus, the R-Type comes with an impressive body, a rougher stance, and looks more brutal and sporty in all respects.
2022 Honda Odyssey REDESIGN
We already wrote about the 2021 Odyssey and mid-cycle snacks. A year later, the new generation 2022 Honda Odyssey will hit the market and be restyled. For this reason, expect many changes and most of them will be significant. For starters, this minivan will be slightly larger in size. The new platform is already in the works and will be able to accommodate a hybrid transmission. In terms of visual improvements, the Odyssey will gain a new front end.
This includes new headlights finished in various shapes and a wider grille. The bumpers at both ends will be changed and the taillights will look thinner. The Japanese manufacturer will offer a new set of wheels, both standard and optional. This minivan will also feature a new sunroof, additional chrome accents and a new tailgate.

The minivan is designed to be functional, and form is a secondary concern. At least that’s what you might think. The Honda Odyssey manages to be stylish without making any sacrifices for utility. Most models run on 18-inch wheels, with 19-inches on the top tier only, and come with halogen headlights, daytime running lights, and LED tailgate brake light strips. Fog lights have been added on the EX, while the Touring replaces the headlights with LEDs. If you choose the 25th anniversary package, your truck will feature unique badges on the rear and sides, along with a chrome treatment for the door handles, 19-inch wheels, and roof rails.
Nothing in the minivan is small, standing between 68.3 and 69.6 inches tall. You’ll need to pay attention to 203.2 inches long and 78.5 inches wide when maneuvering around town or trying to find a parking spot, but the 118.1-inch wheelbase leaves plenty of room inside the car for seven or eight occupants. The truck is surprisingly heavy, with the lighter model weighing in at 4,398 pounds, while the fully-equipped version will add a few hundred pounds, with a total weight of 4,593 pounds.
Odyssey’s color palette is neither expansive nor adventurous, focusing primarily on classic neutrals with a hint of red and blue in the lineup. All colors are standard options, with no premium color palette available, the base LX can access Platinum White Pearl, Lunar Silver, Modern Steel, and Obsidian Blue Pearl. With an upgrade to EX or higher, you can drive Pewter Pacific, Forest Mist, Crystal Black Pearl, and Deep Scarlet Pearl as additional options.

On par with the Toyota Sienna, and just 100 pounds behind the Chrysler Pacifica, the Honda minivan has a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. While you won’t be towing full-size caravans, you can definitely handle a light caravan, boat, or trailer with all the camping or beach gear for the weekend.
Engine and transmission
The Honda Odyssey does not offer the engine, powertrain, or transmission options. Each model comes with a 3.5-liter V-6 that produces 280 hp and 262 lb. That power is regulated by a ten-speed automatic transmission, with the nine-speed automatic gearbox completely eliminated from previous years. The front wheels do all the work on the minivan, with no all-wheel drive offered.
Despite its lack of customization options, The Odyssey doesn’t want the power. Reaching the speed is fast and smooth, thanks to the now standard 10-speed automatic transmission, which received an improvement from its first application and was no more intuitive. Merging and traffic on the highway should be relatively easy, even with a full load of 8 passengers.
Dealing with and driving impressions
The minivan is by no means designed to be exciting, but that does not mean it should effectively disappoint you. Honda Odyssey a well-behaved driver instills confidence without taking away all the fun.
Sharp steering and reaction at low speeds help the minibus to maneuver through busy city streets or busy parking lots. On the road, the steering puts on some weight to keep the car stable, but the focus feels less. There are a surprising amount of comments about the minivan, but they are not annoying. The brakes are equally capable, adjusting input pressure in a predictable way, and stopping the large minivan at just 123 feet from 60 mph.
The suspension handles road imperfections without complaint, although the larger 19-inch wheels in the Elite or Anniversary package don’t get the job done either, providing a consistently louder off-road ride. Fortunately, comfortable seating helps mitigate some of that.
Despite its size, the Odyssey handles it in a more car-like manner than you might expect. Communicative steering and good road manners come together for a pleasant driving experience, and the truck never loses its cool when maneuvering through town or on occasional sharp turns.
Gas mileage in Odyssey
Honda Odyssey gets the absolute average fuel economy for the segment. With only one engine and engine, the pickup truck can cover 19/28/22 city / highway / mpg combined cycle. This is on par with competitors like Chrysler Pacifica and Toyota Sienna, with the former getting the exact same numbers while the latter dropping a few miles per gallon on the highway and sectors combined. However, Sienna does offer AWD, which is slightly less efficient, and the Pacifica has a hybrid variant with much better gas mileage estimates. With a 19.5-gallon tank of regular gas at its disposal, the Odyssey can travel up to 429 miles before having to stop at a gas station.
The Odyssey is as spacious as you would expect from any minibus, and maybe more than that. Three rows of seats can seat up to eight passengers, with plenty of head and leg room for mobility. The interior is well designed, and is ideal for the everyday driver who may need to keep their passengers comfortable on long trips. The standard infotainment package is sparse but well designed and easy to use, a quality that remains even after upgrading to the larger and more sophisticated wings at the top edges. Regardless of whether you choose fabric or leather lingerie, the cabin is well-built with high-end materials that focus on comfort and quality.
Seats and interior space
Space is not an issue inside the pickup truck, with plenty of head and legroom throughout the cabin. The base LX model can seat seven passengers, while the rest of the range provides space for one additional passenger. You lose an inch or two of headroom as you return through the cabin, but even the rear seats should be able to accommodate most adults. However, legroom is ample no matter where you sit. As is common on such bulky vehicles, vision can be an issue. Rear view camera and available surveillance help in blind area, but surround view camera would be better. Sliding rear doors make it easy to get in and out of the pickup, and the second-row sliding seats provide easy access to the third row.
Interior colors and materials
Function comes before form in a minivan, but this does not mean that quality is compromised. While the lower trim LX and EX may be upholstered in gray and beige respectively, the material is classy and feels comfortable. But, if you want a more luxurious interior, you’ll need to upgrade to at least EX-L trim level, which sees the seat appointments replaced with beige leather upholstery. On the plus side, there isn’t an abundance of hard plastics you’d expect from a large passenger car, with the interior door handles and the dashboard featuring a fair amount of soft-touch surfaces. Unfortunately, you are limited to choice when it comes to interior color options, with only beige, mocha, or gray widths, no matter what upholstery you use. Elite makes use of perforated leather for the well-ventilated front seats.
2020 Odyssey Van Trunk and CargoSpace
The cargo space in such a high-capacity vehicle is a major concern. If you are going to transport up to eight people, you definitely need space for all of their belongings. While the Odyssey may not be able to hold full-size suitcases for eight, it can definitely handle a dozen handbags 32.8 cubic feet behind the third-row seats. If you only need to take five people on a longer trip, you can fold the third row down to create storage space of 89.2 cubic feet in the EX, and it goes down to 86.6 at the top trim. This should be more than enough to handle everyone’s luggage. For optimum capacity, you can fold or even remove the second row of seats to provide a total of 144.9 cubic feet of space in the standard configuration, with 140.7 available in the top three variants. Thanks to the high ceiling and width of the minivan, moving unwieldy items should be easy with the seats removed.
Small item storage is very convenient and keeps in mind the total passenger capacity. There is no shortage of cup holders, as each row provides enough seats for the number of passengers. Glove compartment is standard, but the center armrest is a cavernous compartment. There’s also plenty of space under the central stack for larger items, and maybe even an extra handbag if you can’t fit it in the box.
Odyssey infotainment and features
Every new Honda Odyssey comes with automatic climate control, heated vents in the rear, cruise control, push-button start and two 12-volt power outlets. An eight-way power driver’s seat, along with a tiltable manual steering wheel and a telescope, help ensure a comfortable ride, while the front passenger’s seat offers four-way electrical adjustment. Upgrade the trim, and you’ll get access to heated front seats and a 12-position power driver seat with lumbar support. The Honda Sensing kit is also available, while the three-zone climate control replaces the standard system. The EX-L upgrades the upholstery to leather, which also wraps the steering wheel, and a programmable tailgate has been fitted. The Touring Hondavac adds and comes with an electric sunroof installed. Elite adds highly ventilated front seats already heated.
Honda’s infotainment kit isn’t very complex, but that also means it’s easy to operate, with high-quality graphics and fast input responses. The standard system consists of a 5-inch Bluetooth-compatible LCD screen, along with an additional audio jack and two USB ports. The seven-speaker audio system transmits sound throughout the cabin. EX upgraded to an 8-inch touchscreen interface that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, HD Radio, and HondaLink apps. Rear seat passengers can enjoy the rear entertainment system equipped with Touring and Elite trims. The 10.2-inch screen can be folded down from the ceiling and offers Blu-Ray and HDMI playback. Navigation has been added to the infotainment package, along with HD Radio, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and a CabinWatch equipped with CabinTalk PA. Elite premium upgrades to an 11-speaker audio system with multi-zone audio and adds a wireless charging pad.
Odyssey reliability and problems
JD Power gives the Odyssey minivan a reliability score of 78 out of 100, which is neither impressive nor disappointing. The car has not received many complaints and has not been recalled for 2020. Faulty paint on the rear brake calipers and sliding doors that can be opened while driving.
Honda offers a basic three-year / 36,000-mile warranty, a five-year wear and tear coverage, and a five-year or 60,000-mile transmission warranty, whichever comes first.
NHTSA’s review of the 2020 Honda Odyssey returned five stars for public safety, while the IIHS gave it an overall rating of Good, in addition to giving it the Best Safety Pick of 2019. In fact, it has collected the award every year since 2016, topping only 2017. It is also one of the few vehicles that gets impressive child seat installation ease.
The main safety features of Honda Odyssey
The basic Odyssey comes equipped with only the essential safety items. This includes ABS, EBD, stability and traction control, and eight airbags: dual front, front knee, front side, and side curtain. The Honda Sensing Safety Spoiler is only available starting on the EX and includes Forward Collision Prevention, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Keeping Assist, and Lane Departure Warning. Verdict: Is the Honda Odyssey a good car?
The minivan industry may not be a densely populated industry, but that doesn’t mean it’s not that important to stand out. Honda seems to pick up on this, and the Odyssey minivan is clearly designed to turn heads. While it won’t win any Miss Contest, the minivan still has a sleek design and handles remarkably well despite its bulky and awkward dimensions.
Odyssey comes with a long list of features, including smartphone integration and a full suite of advanced security aids. Unfortunately, many of these greed are not standard on the base model, forcing you to upgrade a version or two. However, this is not uncommon in the segment, as the Chrysler Pacifica ensures the best safety features behind higher thrust walls. Despite this shortcoming, a Honda minivan impresses in almost every other region. It offers excellent passenger capacity and is rivaled only by a handful of select competitors.
Nothing beats the Odyssey’s fun driving dynamics, and the price is hard to beat. Along with competitive fuel economy figures and excellent safety ratings, it’s not hard to see why the Honda Odyssey leads the way in the reviews from most critics. You can get a Honda minivan in one of five models: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, or Elite. However, there is no other option when it comes to the powertrain. Every Honda Odyssey has a 3.5-liter V6 that drives 280 hp and 262 pounds to the front wheels. The rowing equipment for this powertrain is a ten-speed automatic transmission.
The LX is the foundation on which the rest of the range is built, but it is a bit more than that. The minivan rides on 18-inch wheels and is equipped with standard halogen headlights and daytime running lights. An eight-way power driver’s seat and four-way power passenger seat are standard, along with automatic climate control, cruise control, push-button operation, and two 12-volt power outlets. As is common with most Honda cars, features are locked behind trim levels, with few customization options in the form of packages. However, since this is the 25th year of the Odyssey minivan, Honda is introducing a special anniversary package. Available in A ($ 2,800) or B ($ 1,500), the package consists of a distinctive smart key, chrome door handles and roof rails, rear bumper, illuminated door sills, and an emblem on the side and rear. The 19-inch chrome alloy wheels are exclusive to Package A, which is a price premium. On the EX-L, you can also equip the navigation system and a 10.2-inch rear entertainment system with top moldings, for an additional fee of $ 2,100.

Which Honda Odyssey Model Should I Buy?
The Honda Odyssey EX should give you all the amenities you need in a truck, in terms of comfort and safety. It’s not as premium as the Touring or Elite, but it’s not too expensive either. You get Honda Sensing safety features, as well as modern features like Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. And the three-zone climate control and larger infotainment interface are sure to be welcome too.
