Ford has a new compact crossover based on the same undercarriage as the Last Fiesta, which we don’t have here in America. And like the hatch it’s based on, the new crossover doesn’t head here either.
The crossover is named Puma, and an ST sports version was revealed on Thursday. Its power is around 200 hp and sends momentum only to the front wheels, essentially making it a high-driving hot hatch.
As expected, the Puma ST is powered by the same 1.5-liter turbocharged inline three-cylinder engine found on the Fiesta ST, which is good for 197 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission and the Puma ST will accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 137 mph.
To optimize handling to the maximum, buyers can choose a Quaife mechanical limited-slip differential. This works in conjunction with a brake-based torque vectoring system to improve grip and reduce spooky cornering. The wheels are 19 inches wide and are standard on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.
Other improvements to the ST include Recaro seats for the driver and front passenger, drive mode selector, and a tuned chassis with stiffer suspension components, more aggressive brakes and faster steering.
