2022 BMW 5 Series. The BMW 2022 5 Series recently leaked like water through a filter, and this week, leaked pictures of the 2022 2 Series Coupe and new iX3 crossover appeared online. And now, before of its formal introduction, BMW is releasing another new model: the 2022 5 Series. According to a post on the BMW fan community Bimmerpost. When the current fifth-generation G30 debuted, it didn’t seem all that different from prior models. BMW refers to the mid-cycle upgrade as “Life Cycle Impulse.”
We’ll stick to the term facelift, and the facelift performed on the outside of the upcoming Fifth Series appears to bring a style more in line with the current Third Series. Shown here as a 530e petrol-electric hybrid, the updated 5 Series features an M-Sport package front bumper and a new set of multi-spoke alloy wheels. The car’s design misses hints of the four circular headlights. Instead, this model adopts a “double hockey stick” daytime running light.
Please note that this is a leak from a European-spec vehicle, which means that there may be some changes that distinguish this model from the North American-spec model. The only thing that is not likely to change is the updated fifth grid size. This is good because unlike other Bimmers, the improved Series 5 grille looks the same size as the grille installed on current cars. BMW may have heard our complaints. The new 5-er also has updated taillights and may also get a cabin update. Updates to the infotainment setup, some new technology, and possibly updates to the powertrain and suspension are available for the BMW midsize sedan. 2022 BMW 5 Series Design
BMW has taken over the 5 Series with a simple and thorough facelift designed to steal the show from the slightly more aggressive Mercedes E-Class and the new Audi A6. Scheduled to be launched in mid-2023 as a 2023 model, the lineup will once again consist of the 248-horsepower 530i, 335-horsepower 540i, 523-horsepower M550i and 288-horsepower 530e Hybrid. All models will continue to be available with optional rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, called xDrive, except for the M550i xDrive which is all-wheel drive only.
The more powerful M5 will be updated in the not-too-distant future, reflecting the changes to the 5-Series Infantry model. At first glance, the 5 Series’ facelift looks more angled and fiercer, and LED headlights accentuate sharp folds. The prominent grille also stands out more, and while the headlights get an L-shaped lighting element, this element has now disappeared from the taillights.
All exhaust pipes now look the same regardless of the engine – keep the badge, everyone! Longer and wider, the new kidney grilles emphasize the closeness of the Series 7 and X7 without showing dominance. The side view retains the peculiar character lines that shift into the C-pillar. The M550i is treated, as before, with bronze trim.
Overall, we liked the new look, and the 5 Series still looks leaner and sportier than its fatter competitors. Inside, the visual changes are minor, with the new contrast highlighting the most notable improvement. However, the driver assistance and infotainment systems have greatly improved, with new cloud-based maps and a plethora of additional options that do their best to distract you while potentially saving you from the consequences of distraction.
While the 530i’s turbocharged engine remains unchanged, the six-row 540i powerplant gets a 48-volt hybrid system that can provide a bit of power to combat turbo idling. It will also slightly improve fuel economy and slightly simplify the auto start/stop function. The 530e plug-in hybrid, powered by a deconstructed version of the 4-banger 530i, gets a much bigger boost than the 107-horsepower electric motor built into the ZF’s eight-speed automatic transmission. But perhaps our favorite remains the newly upgraded 4.4-liter V-8 in the M550i; At 523 horsepower, it is close to the M5 while exhibiting a more well-mannered demeanor.
2022 BMW 5 Series Engine
The next-generation 2022 BMW 5 Series will be available with an all-electric powertrain option and go on sale in 2023. This means that the brand’s first executive sedan will rival the upcoming Mercedes EQE sedan – the all-electric sister of the E-Class – and the Tesla model. S. These new models will be followed by the BMW iX3, i4 and iNEXT SUVs, all of which will be launched before the end of 2023.

If the normal engine continues to run, 48-volt mild hybrid technology will be used to help improve fuel efficiency even more. While BMW has promised a total of new models by 2023, the current life cycle of the 5 Series means the new i5 is likely to be released at the end of that period.
BMW has also confirmed that other models in the brand’s basic lineup will receive a pure electric variant. These include the X1 SUV and 7 Series limousines, which are powered by a next-generation combustion engine and a plug-in hybrid option.
2022 BMW 5 Series Release Date And Price
The current release schedule is still uncertain because BMW hasn’t officially released it yet, but the updated 2022 BMW 5 Series appears to start at $55,195 for the 530i, $58,195 for the 530e hybrid, $60,445 for the 540i, and $77,795 for the M550i. xDrive. Redesigned BMW 5 Series 2022
BMW will be eyeing a minor and comprehensive five-series facelift to catch the eye of the slightly more aggressive Mercedes E-Class and the new Audi A6. The production line, which will launch in mid-2020 as the 2021 model, will consist of the 248 hp 530i, 335 hp 540i, 523 hp M550i and the plug-in hybrid 288 hp 530e.

The exhaust pipe now looks the same regardless of the engine – leave the decals, everyone! Longer and wider, the new kidney grille reinforces their affinity with the 7 and X7 series without showing any dominance.
The side view retains the archaic character lines that shift to the C-pillars. The M550i, as before, has been treated with bronze trim. Overall, we liked the new look and the 5 Series still looks leaner and sportier than its fatter competitors.

BMW 5 Series 2022 Specifications
Smooth, powerful and efficient, both the four cylinders in the 530i and the six cylinders in the 540i motivate this big sedan with dignity. For 2021, the 540i powertrain gets an extra boost, keeping the 48-volt hybrid system, which we haven’t tested yet.
The new 2022 BMW 5 Series 2022 will arrive at US dealers in July 2020, each paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that shifts intuitively and quickly, maximizing the available power.
The 540i’s six-cylinder is incredibly smooth, powerful and makes a pleasing sound. Despite the M5’s top-dog, which we reviewed separately, the M550i is the sportiest of the line, with a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 under the hood.
In our tests, the M550i ran through our acceleration faster than the Audi S6 and Mercedes-AMG E53. All 5 Series models are efficient processors, but they lack the enthusiasm we’ve come to expect from BMW.
The steering feedback is light, and the ride—even on the performance-oriented M550i—appears to be tuned more for comfort than pure driving pleasure. The plug-in 530e uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a turbocharger and electric motor to produce 288 horsepower.
The last one we tested—the 2018 all-wheel drive model with 248 horsepower—managed to reach speeds of 6.1 seconds to 60 mph. The 530e will also offer electric-only driving for short distances, but the EPA has yet to release an estimate for its range.
The EPA hasn’t released the fuel-economy ratings for the newly-hybrid 540i, but we expect to see a slight improvement over last year’s numbers, which already deliver impressive fuel efficiency. The 540i and 530i both performed well in our real-world tests, delivering 34 and 31 mpg, respectively, on our 200-mile highway.
If that wasn’t enough for fuel consumption needs, the 530e plug-in hybrid managed 39 mpg in the same test.
BMW 5 Series EV 2022 Engine
The next-generation BMW 5 Series and X1 SUV models will be available with an all-electric drive, as well as petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid options. The 2015 BMW 5 Series is available in 4-cylinder 528i, 6-cylinder 535i and V8 550i models, in addition to rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The 528i has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 241 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, with maximum torque coming in at just 1,250 rpm. The 3.0-liter V-6 in the 535i produces 300 horsepower. and 300 lb-ft, while the diesel in the new model 535d produces 256 horsepower. and 413 lb-ft. The 4.4-liter V8 in the 550i produces 445 horsepower. and 480 lbs ft.
Each of these engines has two direct-injection turbochargers and a BMW Valvetronic, which can vary the intake valve height to save fuel and improve response, and each is paired with an 8-speed STEPTRONIC automatic transmission. Auto Engine Start/Stop also helps save fuel during choppy driving by pausing the engine, then starting it intelligently when the brake pedal is released. The “Eco Pro” mode allows for more careful driving, while the individual drive dynamics control selector allows the driver to click between Comfort, Normal, Sport and Sport + modes that coordinate throttle and transmission responses, steering improvements and stability control interventions and in equipped cars.., Dynamic Damping Control Suspension (which helps combine smooth ride with sharp response when you need it) and Active Cornering Stabilization (which reduces roll when cornering).
Additionally, a system called Integral Active Steering is available and gives the 5-Series sedan a more nimble feel with steering – a bit – with the rear wheels. While BMW claims 36 mpg of the new 535d, those looking for more eco-friendly performance will want to take a look at the ActiveHybrid5, which packs a 300-hp six-cylinder turbo engine. and 54 hp. There wasn’t a 5Series station wagon in 2015, but there was the 5Series Gran Turismo (GT), a unique body style that was part station wagon and part hatchback, with slightly raised seats reminiscent of an SUV. Gran Turismo’s rear seat space far surpasses that of the 5 Series sedan, with an upgraded exterior, unique two-piece tailgate and foldable rear seats that add flexibility and comfort during transportation. Packages available in the 5-Series – include cold-weather options that include heated steering wheel and seats, Dynamic Handling Package, Executive Package and Luxury Package, both of which add premium touches such as exclusive leather surfaces, ceramic controls, tailgate strength, solid wood trim and a Bang & Olufsen audio system.

According to the news, BMW hasn’t announced pricing for the 2022 BMW 5 Series, but we estimate that the mid-range 540i remains the best value in the 5 Series lineup, offering a good balance between performance and comfort. This model comes standard with rear-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available.

The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that the 530i four-cylinder engine will deliver up to 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. The 540i six-cylinder engine is rated at up to 25 mpg in the city and 32 on the highway. The M550i’s more powerful V-8 engine drops it to 17 mpg city and 25 highway. The three models we tested outperformed our real-world tests; The 530e delivers 34 mpg while the 540i and M550i deliver 31 mpg and 28 mpg, respectively.
