2021 Toyota Tundra is not in the Japanese carmaker’s plans. While the Tacoma diesel engine is yet to roll, the larger truck has the same V8 transmission. Instead of a diesel model, we can see a twin-turbo V6. The same engine will come for Land Cruiser and LX SUVs.
The next generation of the truck will come in 2023, so we will not see any major updates, even if 2021 Toyota Tundra appears. The company is shifting to smaller models, and when it ends in these categories, the focus shifts to the larger models. Tundra and 4Runner are the first units to arrive as new vehicles.
2021 Toyota Tundra Engine
This was one of the most interesting questions about the 2021 Toyota Tundra Diesel. Given that all American full-size trucks have recently received new units, we thought the Tundra would go the same way. FCA, GM, and Ford use a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6. Toyota can install 1KD-FTV powertrain with 190 hp and 310 lb-ft. Still behind major competitors (250-280 hp and 440-470 lb-ft).
Another option is the 4.5-liter V8, which the Land Cruiser uses abroad. It’s good for 200 hp and 320 lb. It’s still much shorter than the main U.S. tundra competitors.
Emissions are the main reason why we haven’t seen a 2021 Toyota Tundra Diesel. The company will have a lot of work to do before tuning the aforementioned engine to meet EPA requirements. Efficiency is the key today.
On the other hand, 2021 Toyota Tundra will provide more torque than the standard unit. This means tougher, more capable off-road work. Towing capacity wins the most and the current rating will get the most improvement. The V8 can produce 380 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, while the towing capacity is 10,200 lb.
Toyota Tundra Diesel TRD Pro 2021
Imagine pairing a 2021 Tundra diesel with the TRD Pro package. Well this might be your dream truck with tons of offroad upgrades. There are new suspension, shocks and exhaust systems. Tundra engine + petrol + combo This package is a great match for the Ford F-150 Raptor. Other companies cannot match the offer. The truck will take you almost anywhere.
The new Tundra is scheduled to be operational in 2023. In 2022, we will see if a diesel engine will appear in the next generation. The company didn’t close the door forever. So we are keen for that to happen.
Big changes are coming. In addition to the diesel engine, we also saw the new petrol unit and finally the hybrid engine. Changes to trim levels and more options will be available. The Crew Cab will definitely provide most of the features and the new Tundra will be the first model to reach the next generation. Shortly thereafter, we’ll see the next 4Runner SUV series. Another Toyota pickup, the Tacoma, is among the latest to have received a redesign.

2021 Toyota Tundra Update
Rumors are circulating about the next-generation Toyota Tundra 2022 with much speculation about the engine. New patent applications indicate that Toyota engineers are working on something and that something could be very special: a Toyota Tundra diesel
It seems to be tracking the brand news recently introduced by Toyota about the new iForce Max. This fueled speculation that Toyota will take the existing 5.7L iForce V-8 engine to a whole new level. We spoke to several unofficial sources about their views and asked G.R. Pisces for these ideas on the diesel Toyota Tundra.
Earlier this year, Toyota’s trademark application of the iForce Max name sparked speculation of a twin-turbo V-6 petrol engine for the upcoming Tundra, with 450 hp and 500 lb-plus feet. Given that Lexus already has a V-6 biturbo petrol engine and the iForce is Toyota’s well-known pickup engine moniker, it seemed reasonable, and given Toyota’s hybrid experience, it would be easy to get a few extra pounds.
However, the patent application filed in December of last year takes me in a different direction: diesel-injected tube fuel.
I will say that now he does not mention the word “diesel” or “tundra”, and that the word “gas” is only used as a country and not as an acronym for gasoline. I am not an engineer either and do not have a habit of breaking motors until after I wear them, put them on or blow them off.
So what do we really know?
The documentation refers to a “self-ignition compressed internal combustion engine”, but this may apply to a diesel cycle engine or an HCCI (homogeneous charge-pressure ignition) engine running on gasoline or diesel. The documents often mention a “glow candle”, but they appear to be parts used for heating fuel instead of air as they are on conventional diesel. I can’t find any indication of whether there is a conventional spark plug or a glow plug in the attached line drawings or not, the only material named is an aluminum tip with some hardening points of chrome steel. The drawings show a pair of arrangements, one with ducts attached to the chamber side of the cylinder head (and depending on the mount, this could be part of the injector inserted from the side of the chamber) and the other showing the ducts inside the head on the roof of the chamber.
In one section, the fuel is injected with a pressurized charge, which is more indicative of the diesel in which the combustion begins when the fuel is added, rather than the HCCI petrol engine where the fuel is injected during the intake and burns cycle automatically when the pressure causes the temperature and density to rise sufficiently. . However, HCCI has been tested on diesel engines in the past, so Toyota may have discovered a way to make it applicable to a wider range of speed and load.
The text often mentions “smoke suppression”. Smoke is often used in diesel engines, and on really rich heating rods, but this does not guarantee that diesel and particulate matter will not be used either – some gasoline cars in Europe have particle traps, most of them made with direct injection.
What really makes me think that this is diesel is the work done by Charles Muller and his cohorts at Sandia National Laboratories, who have found that a better mixture of fuel and air before the point of ignition would make combustion cleaner and more fresh. Fuller, thinner and cooler. Reducing nitrogen oxides and soot. For the similarity, consider your propane torch, which has a fitting at the end of the tube (paradoxically simulating a modern diesel exhaust nozzle) to better mix air and fuel and make that nice clean blue flame, versus a smoky orange flame when you first ignite an oxy-acetylene flame.
My reading of the patent document makes me think it’s for diesel engines, but I was wrong before. And there is no guarantee that the tube fuel injection will collide with any Toyota engine for years to come, or that it will appear in the Tundra. But think about how many diesel engines Toyota sells worldwide, pipeline fuel injection will likely be performed at the same or lower cost than typical diesel aftertreatment systems, and the payoff will come quickly.
We also reached out to several unofficial engineers who said a variety of things.
Someone mentioned that it could be a homogeneous ignition with charge pressure, also known as the Mazda SkyActiv X engine, which was a 15% improvement over other gasoline engines. HCCI engines operate by pressure to ignite a fuel-air mixture, just like diesel. Usually, in a gasoline engine, a spark plug is used for ignition.
This has long been considered a “unicorn” of engine design and many manufacturers have spent decades trying to improve it.
Why Toyota copies Mazda? Toyota and Mazda have a history of working together. They are currently working on joint vehicles at a plant in Alabama, and Toyota owns a small stake in Mazda (Toyota usually takes an ownership interest in the companies it works with). This leads one to question whether Toyota owns a part of Mazda, and is working on building cars with Mazda, so why not take a look at their engines too? The patent could then use some of Mazda’s advances while making minor adjustments to allow Toyota to patent its own design.
This, then, means that the engine will use petrol since Mazda’s current SkyActiv is a gasoline engine. However, given the method of patent formulation and the mode of operation of diesel engines, this patent can explain how a gasoline engine can use the combustion principles of a diesel engine.
Another source we spoke to, who has years of developing diesel engines for a major carmaker, said it was very similar to the way a whale described: heated fuel mixed with air causes spontaneous ignition inside the combustion chamber. Essentially, it eliminates the need for spark plugs, reduces emissions, and improves fuel economy. While this could mean Toyota would need strict controls over block temperature and other factors, it is possible to operate such an engine.
However, a really interesting application is in a diesel engine. This engine might override one of the aftertreatment systems currently on the diesel engine. At this stage, you need to add the diesel exhaust fluid, carry out the renewal and replacement of the diesel particulate filters, as well as monitor the injection. Basically, as many see, the diesel engine was destroyed by the emissions teams and is now an extremely expensive engine to maintain. Removing a post-treatment system may reduce purchase costs, reduce maintenance, and improve fuel economy by reducing unspent fuel and possibly improving performance by removing an engine airflow restriction. In other words, we can see a Toyota Tundra diesel engine better than petrol, more efficient in operation and less expensive to purchase.

2021 Toyota Tundra News
A final redesign is expected before the truck arrives in the new generation next season. Well, things slow down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but people at Toyota are working hard to meet deadlines. The truck is missing a beat with the leaders in its class, which are now available with diesel engines. The Japanese company has ruled out this type of transmission, saying the focus is on greener transmissions. Well, the Toyota Tundra 2021 won’t be a hybrid, but a new engine is possible.
In addition to the mechanical updates, we expect more changes to the truck. The truck will get a new look with minor body upgrades. Dimensions and capabilities will remain the same, including trim levels. For a while, we could hear that the TRD Pro package could get a serious update and it’s actually been since Sequoia SUV joined the lineup. Regardless, we will have to wait until next year to see the 2021 Toyota Tundra in all its glory.
The V6 will replace the V8 in the 2021 Toyota Tundra
The hottest topic about the Japanese automaker is the new I-Force Max engine. Shortly after the debut when the company applied for this brand, its specifications were leaked. Well, nothing is fixed yet, but we can hope the rumors come true. For some time, experts have predicted this will happen. The Tundra is a bad truck, but with only one engine option. Other companies also offer V6 units. On the other hand, Toyota is replacing the V6 with the I-Force Max. The V6 will not be just an entry-level engine, but the main source of energy.
According to sources, the new engine will produce more than 400 hp. The Ford F-150 can get 450hp from its V6 turbocharged engine. Currently, the V8 is capable of delivering 380 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. The main question is what will happen to towing capacity. The current engine can hold 10,200 pounds, and is properly equipped. Towing capacity is the priority for engineers.
Without diesel, the hybrid will arrive in 2022
Well, if the company wanted to go for exceptional towing capabilities, they’d install the diesel unit under the hood. However, Toyota ended all speculation by saying “no” to such a transmission. So we will not see a diesel in 2021, nor after that. This is a huge disappointment for all fans waiting for this engine to appear. Several years ago we heard rumors about it. Even those skeptical fans thought it was time for other full-size pickups to get their diesel gear set. However, Toyota will have to find another way to compete against the Chevy Silverado, Ram 1500, and Ford F-150.
The solution might be a 2021 Toyota Tundra hybrid. However, as with the I-Force Max, the main question is towing capacity. At this point, the hybrid configurations can improve fuel economy, but models with such engines are not the best carriers. However, even with reduced transmission potential, improvements in mileage and emissions would cover this loss.
Changes to 2021 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro
The best thing about a Tundra is the TRD Pro trim level introduced five years ago, which made the truck one of the best workers in challenging weather and road conditions. The special strikes and suspensions will keep you out of any situation. Skid plates will protect the vehicle’s bodywork and the truck also provides off-road tires. The same V8 powers this version, while the 4 × 4 is standard.
The new season may bring updates for this bundle. We are still trying to figure out what may be new, but any improvement will make the tundra better on any type of terrain.
Next generation truck is ready by 2023
The all-new Tundra is coming in 2023. The I-Force Max won’t wait long for it to appear. According to the newcomers’ schedule, the Tundra and 4Runner SUV are the first vehicles to enter the new generation, but they happen in 2023. After that, fans will see the Highlander, Land Cruiser and Sequoia. Ultimately, the company will release the new Tacoma truck.
2021 Toyota Tundra – release date and pricing
The redesign will raise the new truck’s starting price slightly. If you want to save some money, it’s never too late to buy the YM 2020 for $ 33,500. The next truck will be the closest MSRP to $ 35,000. The company will maintain all trim levels. SR5 and Limited models are mid-range models. TRD Pro, after updates, will cost more than $ 50,000. If you’re looking for luxury, not utility, platinum is a better option. For the same price, you get leather upholstery, navigation, premium audio and compatibility with all modern smartphone integration services.
